Let Zanzibar be clean

DEVELOPING AN ENVIRONMENT AND UNDERWATER EDUCATION CONCEPT IN ZANZIBAR

His honourable the president of Zanzibar dr. Hussein Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stated that the Blue Economy and Environment issues are on the top of his agenda. In order to achieve this goal, education must be provided. The educational concept created by Barca lui Zoe and already implemented for more than 2000 people in Romania follows the necessary steps in order for kids to never forget the lessons:
TELL, SHOW AND INVOLVE

Project approved by the Ministry of Education in Zanzibar

Environment and
underwater education for all children

A wide understanding of the problem and a minimal behaviour each of us can adopt in order to protect the ocean is needed. The children included in the program are aged between 12 and 18, locals in Zanzibar.

10 schools approached on the islands of Unguja and Pemba

Hamamni Secondary School

WHY GETTING INVOLVED

The underwater Paradise is
deeply harmed by the
garbage we generate

Environment and
underwater education for all children

The brand will show its care for the children’s education gaining awarness among the future consumers. Our intentions are to use the international mass media to bring more awareness for the problem and the possible solutions that can be adopted by any person.

People throw garbage on beaches and unauthorised places

Lack of education make people treat Nature with lack of responsibility.

Seas and oceans need our awareness and protection

The underwater Paradise is deeply harmed by the garbage we generate. Living creatures confuse plastic objects with food and eat them. The oceans produce more than 50% of the oxigen humans breathe daily. The entire life on Planet Earth depends on the heart of the marine ecosystem.

Some children in Zanzibar are afraid pf water

Despite the fact that they live on an island, children in Zanzibar don’t know how to swim/ snorkel and are afraid of water

How it works

Experiencing this kind of educational concept and experience children will expand their awareness and creativity, together with creating a very strong bond with Nature. Starting with mid April 2021 we will visit 10 schools in Zanzibar following the schedule below:

Children learn where to throw garbage

Involving children in clean-ups will make them see the difference between a dirty and a clean environment and convince them to be careful.

Children will gain a wider perspective

Seeing the beauty that lies underneath the surface of water will create an indestructible bond between the children and Nature

Children learn how to float

With the snorkeling equipment children learn how to float on the surface of water so swimming can come easier.

10AM - 12PM

CLASSROOM TALK

For about two hours we discuss together about Nature, the Planet Earth, why paying attention to its health is important to us, about the underwater activities and what are we going to do next.

12PM - 13PM

BEACH CLEAN UP

On our way to the beach/ at the beach we are going to cleanup every piece of garbage and put it in plastic bags. When the plastic bags are full, we throw them to the garbage bin.

13PM- 15PM

SNORKELING SESSION

We are going to learn how to use the snorkeling equipment, how to breath properly, how to float on the surface of water, how to free dive and finally enjoy the underwater Paradise

BENEFITS OF THE UNDERWATER ACTIVITIES

Breath awareness and exercise

One of the loudest noises we hear while practicing snorkeling is our own breath. This leads to be aware of life itself and also mold it to bring calm and clarity.

Change of perspective

The underwater environment is very different from the one we are usually used to so while practicing activities such as snorkeling and free diving will force our brain to build new wires which can lead to a wider perspective.

Experience of floating sensation

Experienced for 9 months in our mothers’ wombs, the floating sensation was forgotten. We can experience this extraterrestrial sensation while practicing underwater activities.

PROJECT SUSTAINABILITY

To be able to snorkel and to be able to swim are both sustainable abilities among citizens of any island. There is high interest in including this educational concept in the Zanzibar schools’ official curricula. With all the equipment at hand and the pilot project run, the educational concept can be applied further for all pupils in Zanzibar in order to assure a healthy environment and educated citizens.
